Simplified retractable trocar
Abstract
Abstract A trocar (T) is received in a trocar tube (18) for movement relative to the tube between a position extended from the tube piercing and a retracted position shielded by the tube (18). The trocar (T) is mounted within a housing (H) which carries a spring (30) normally biasing the trocar (T) to the retracted position. The latch mechanism (P) within the housing (H) is engageable with the trocar to maintain the trocar in the extended position. The latch mechanism (P) senses the application of piercing force to the trocar and, upon the interruption of such force in response to the completion of a piercing operation, functions to release the trocar for retraction by the spring (30).
