Abstract A COUNTING MECHANISM IN WHICH A STREAM OF ARTICLES PASSING ALONG A GUIDE ARE INTERPOSED WITH REGULARLY ARRANGED SPACER FINGERS WHICH EXPAND TO BUNCH UP THE ARTICLES INTO DISCRETE SEPARATED GROUPS PRIOR TO DELIVERY AT FOR EXAMPLE A BOXING STATION. EXPANSION OF THE FINGERS MAY BE EFFECTED BY CAUSING THE FINGERS TO TRAVEL IN PAIRS, ONE FINGER OF EACH PAIR BEING DRIVEN BY A FIRST CONVEYOR, AND THE OTHER FINGER OF EACH PAIR BEING SLIDABLY CONNECTED THERETO AND CONDUCTED BY A SECOND, SLOWER MOVING CONVEYOR.
