Abstract FILAMENTS CONSISTING OF A CORE OF DEVITRIFIED GLASS SURROUNDED BY A LAYER OF GLASS IN COMPRESSION. THE METHOD OF PRODUCING THOSE FILAMENTS COMPRISING DRAWING THEM FROM A LAYER OF SILICA GLASS FUSED TO A CORE OF DEVITRIFIABLE GLASS AND HEATING THE DRAWN FILAMENTS AT A TEMPERATURE THAT WILL DEVITRIFY THE DEVITRIFIABLE GLASS WITHOUT DEFORMING THE SILICA GLASS.
