Abstract

Abstract An electrical plug connector includes two separate modules, one of which is an electrical contact module that plugs into the housing, and the other of which is a printed circuit board that is also secured in the housing upon insertion, the contacts of the electrical contact module being arranged to engage terminals of the circuit board upon insertion of the respective modules into the connector housing. The plug connector housing includes a pair of latch arms and a guide slot, the contact module and the circuit board each being arranged to be guided by the guide slot during insertion into the housing, and to capture one of the latch arms upon completion of insertion. To enable the plug connector to be keyed to a specific receptacle, the plug also includes polarization keys, and the receptacle includes corresponding slots whose dimensions and configuration or position serve to key the plug to the receptacle. In addition, the receptacle includes a filter block that snaps into the receptacle housing and surrounds the contacts to provide EMI filtering.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 116 words
An electrical connector comprising: a plug defining a recess and at least a passageway in communication with the recess and forming walls on opposite sides of the plug; a contact unit with an associated printed circuit board received within the recess; and means provided on the walls for guiding insertion of the contact unit and the associated printed circuit board into the plug, and also for fully supporting the printed circuit board in the plug after insertion of the printed circuit board into the plug, the means including a slot which extends horizontally along an inner surface of each of said walls and is dimensioned to properly receive a corresponding locking projection of the contact unit.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 116 words
An electrical connector comprising: a plug defining a recess and at least a passageway in communication with the recess and forming walls on opposite sides of the plug; a contact unit with an associated printed circuit board received within the recess; and means provided on the walls for guiding insertion of the contact unit and the associated printed circuit board into the plug, and also for fully supporting the printed circuit board in the plug after insertion of the printed circuit board into the plug, the means including a slot which extends horizontally along an inner surface of each of said walls and is dimensioned to properly receive a corresponding locking projection of the contact unit.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 20 words
The connector as described in claim 1 , wherein said slot is dimensioned to properly receive the printed circuit board.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
The connector as described in claim 1 , wherein the plug includes a resilient lock arm around each slot for engagement with the locking projection.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 139 words
An electrical connector comprising: a plug defining a recess and at least a passageway in communication with the recess in a top face thereof, and forming walls on opposite sides of the plug and a lip protruding into each passageway, each wall defining a slot in an inner surface thereof; a printed circuit board; and a contact unit comprising a plurality of contacts with an insulative housing formed therearound, ends of the contacts being engaged with the printed circuit board and tail ends of the contacts being received in the corresponding passageways; wherein the printed circuit board and the contact unit are slidably received in the slot and securely retained in the plug and each lip engages with the tail end of the corresponding contact thereby preventing inadvertent deformation of the contact during assembly with a mating receptacle connector.
Claim 6
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 24 words
The electrical connector as described in claim 4 , wherein each lip protrudes into the corresponding passageway from a rear end of the plug.
