Abstract

Abstract An information system provides selected information to individual users. A high speed digital program signal is broadcast and contains program data that begins at a reference time and is repeated at set intervals. A separate index signal contains a receiver identifier, reference time, program interval information, and program signal tuning information. The user's receiver monitors the index signal. When the receiver detects the correct identifier, the receiver downloads and stores the reference time and tuning information. The receiver then uses the stored reference time and tuning information to receive, download, store, and output the user's selected program. In some embodiments a transceiver replaces the receiver to allow the user to make program requests. Program requests are relayed to a service center using a conventional wireless communications system.
