Abstract

Abstract An email is received and stored at a network node. The email message is divided into a first text portion and a second voice portion. The division of the email message into the first and second portions can be determined by user preferences stored in a user profile in the network or by attached keywords or audio email. The first text portion is transmitted to a wireless communication device for display on a display of the device. The text portion of the message may be transmitted using a data channel or on a voice channel. The voice portion of the message is converted into speech and is transmitted to the device using a voice channel. In accordance with another embodiment, the communication device receives the email message from the network as a text message and the device performs the splitting and conversion from text to speech locally.
