An atrial cardiovascular catheter comprising: an elongate flexible member comprising: an electrically active distal portion defining a first diameter; an electrically active intermediate portion spaced proximally from the distal portion and defining a second diameter greater than the first diameter; a first coil electrode proximally spaced about 6 to about 10 centimeters from the intermediate portion, and a second coil electrode which is proximally spaced about 6 to about 10 centimeters proximally from the first coil electrode.

An atrial cardioversion catheter comprising an elongated flexible member comprising an electrically active distal portion defining a first diameter; and an electrically active intermediate portion spaced proximally from the distal portion and defining a second diameter greater than the first diameter, wherein a first curve of the elongate flexible member forms a junction between the distal portion and the intermediate portion and has a radius of curvature of about 7 to about 11 centimeters with an arc of about 30 to about 50 degrees and a second curve of the elongate flexible member defines the intermediate portion and has a radius of curvature of about 0.5 centimeters to about 2 centimeters with an arc of about 45 to about 90 degrees.
