Abstract

Abstract A superchargeable internal combustion engine with cylinder cut-off has a first cylinder group which operates over the entire operating range of the internal combustion engine. A second cylinder group is cut off or connected up as a function of demand. The engine's response dynamics when the second cylinder group is connected up by providing an exhaust-gas turbocharger which is used exclusively for supercharging the first cylinder group. A mechanical supercharger is provided which is used exclusively for supercharging the second cylinder group.
