Abstract
Abstract A landfill system having a waste pit with a base portion. The base portion is covered with a liquid impermeable sheet and there is disposed at least one filtration zone below the base portion. Waste water is prevented from entering the natural substrate and the water table before it is directed through the filtration zone wherein the waste water is treated to remove contaminants prior to entering the natural substrate. Also included is a method for constructing a landfill system wherein a waste pit is cleared of debris and a liquid impermeable sheet is disposed on the base portion. In the base portion a filtration system is installed to capture waste water prior to entry into the natural substrate.
