Abstract

Abstract A connector (10M,10F) has a housing (11M,11F) of insulating material, a terminal (45M,45F) within the housing (11M,11F) and a shielding cover (30) for the housing (11M,11F). The terminal (45M,45F) is adapted to be connected (e.g. by crimping) to a core wire (Wa) of a cable (W); the shielding cover (30) is adapted to be connected (e.g. by crimping) to a shielding layer (Wb) of a cable (W). The shielding cover (30) is movable from a first condition in which the cover (30) is spaced from the housing (11M,11F) and a second condition in which the cover (30) is engaged with the housing (11M,11F).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 122 words
An electrical connector for a shielded electrical cable having a shielding layer and a core wire, said connector having a housing of insulating material, an electrically conducting terminal within the housing and a shielding cover for the housing, wherein the terminal is connectable with said core wire and the shielding cover is connectable with said shielding layer, the housing and shielding cover being relatively movable from a first condition in which the housing and cover are spaced apart to a second condition in which the cover overlaps the housing, wherein one of the housing and the cover includes a projection engageable in a channel of the other of the housing and the cover, and the projection and channel constitute a bayonet fitting.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 122 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 14 words
The connector of claim 1 wherein the housing has an electrically conductive outer shell.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
The connector of claim 2 wherein in the second condition, an electrical contact is established between the cover and the shell.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
The connector of claim 1 wherein the housing and cover are engageable in the second condition.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 15 words
The connector of claim 1 wherein the housing is cylindrical and the cover is arcuate.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
The connector of claim 1 further comprising a casing which receives and retains the housing and cover therein.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 40 words
The connector of claim 1 and further including a shielded electrical cable attached thereto, the core wire of the cable being foldable in the second condition to exert a resilient force which, in use, urges the cover and housing apart.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 16 words
The connector of claim 3 wherein the housing and cover are engageable in the second condition.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 29 words
The connector of claim 8 wherein one of the housing and the cover includes a projection engageable in a channel of the other of the housing and the cover.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 14 words
The connector of claim 9 wherein the projection and channel constitute a bayonet fitting.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 15 words
The connector of claim 10 wherein the housing is cylindrical and the cover is arcuate.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 18 words
The connector of claim 11 further comprising a casing which receives and retains the housing and cover therein.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 40 words
The connector of claim 12 and further including a shielded electrical cable attached thereto, the core wire of the cable being foldable in the second condition to exert a resilient force which, in use, urges the cover and housing apart.
