Abstract

Abstract A method of forming an abutment post and securing it to an implant in prosthodontic restorations wherein a post part is applied to a collar part and the parts are rotated relative to each other into a desired position where they are fixed together. The fixed parts are then used to form a one-piece abutment post such as by molding when the parts are made from a resin material. The one-piece abutment post is secured relative to an implant in patient's mouth to form a body for a crown or coping. An adaptor between the post and the implant can be used to adapt the post to various types and sizes of implants.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 103 words
A method of making an abutment post which is used to receive a prosthesis in dental restorations, the method comprising the steps of: applying a post part on a collar part and moving the parts relative to each other into a desired position, fixing the parts together, forming a one-piece abutment post from the parts as fixed together, and then fixing the one-piece abutment post to an implant in a patient's mouth using an adaptor which has been selected to fit the implant in the patient's mouth and which is secured to the one-piece abutment post and the implant in the patient's mouth.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 103 words
A method of making an abutment post which is used to receive a prosthesis in dental restorations, the method comprising the steps of: applying a post part on a collar part and moving the parts relative to each other into a desired position, fixing the parts together, forming a one-piece abutment post from the parts as fixed together, and then fixing the one-piece abutment post to an implant in a patient's mouth using an adaptor which has been selected to fit the implant in the patient's mouth and which is secured to the one-piece abutment post and the implant in the patient's mouth.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
The method defined in claim 1 including the step of utilizing a screw to fix the one-piece abutment post to the implant.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 33 words
The method defined in claim 2 including the step of extending the screw through the adaptor and securing it to the implant with threads on the screw received in threads on the implant.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
The method defined in claim 1 including the step of utilizing polyhedron shapes on the post part and collar part to facilitate movement of the parts relative to each other into a desired position.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 32 words
The method defined in claim 1 wherein the collar part is first removably mounted on the adaptor in a patient's mouth prior to application of the post part on the collar part.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
The method defined in claim 1 wherein the collar part and the post part are made from an acrylic resin and the parts are fixed together by a bonding agent.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 30 words
The method defined in claim 1 wherein the collar part and the post part are made from a composite resin and the parts are fixed together by a bonding agent.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 23 words
The method defined in claim 1 wherein the adaptor is selected from a group of different adaptors suited for different types of implants.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 88 words
A method of making an abutment post which is used to receive a prosthesis in dental restorations, the method comprising the steps of: applying a post part on a collar part and moving the parts relative to each other into a desired position, fixing the parts together, forming a one-piece abutment post from the parts as fixed together, and then fixing the one-piece abutment post to an implant in a patient's mouth and wherein the collar part and the post part are fixed together by a bonding agent.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 88 words
A method of making an abutment post which is used to receive a prosthesis in dental restorations, the method comprising the steps of: applying a post part on a collar part and moving the parts relative to each other into a desired position, fixing the parts together, forming a one-piece abutment post from the parts as fixed together, and then fixing the one-piece abutment post to an implant in a patient's mouth and wherein the collar part and the post part are fixed together by a bonding agent.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 20 words
The method defined in claim 9 wherein the collar part and the post part are made from a resin material.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 20 words
The method defined in claim 9 wherein the collar part and the post part are made from an acrylic resin.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 20 words
The method defined in claim 11 wherein the collar part and the post part are made from a composite resin.
