A voice response system comprising: an interface unit coupled to a plurality of trunk groups each comprising a plurality of channels which each operate in accordance with a set of operating parameters; and a control unit comprising a plurality of trunk type configuration files, each file corresponding to each unique set of operating parameters, each file containing values corresponding to certain operating parameters within said set, and a server process responsive to each unique set of said values contained in a configuration file and to events received over said channels for responding to said events in accordance with said values.
