Abstract

Abstract Disclosed is a palm rest (94) for use with a computer pointing device such as a computer mouse (99) that minimizes an alleviated posture- and stress-related disorders associated with use of computer devices. The palm rest includes a hand-support section (96) that is V-shaped to allow the finger (97) and thumb (98) of a user to readily access the computer mouse, a platform section (100), and a curvilinear section (102) that couples the hand-support section to the platform section. The curvilinear section allows a user to adjust the height of the hand-support section according to user preference and the heights of individual pointing devices. Also disclosed is a pair of left (161) and right (163) platform sections that, when releasably attached to a computer keyboard (164) or portable computer, provide stability to the computer keyboard. Further, a portable computer (182) is disclosed that includes a base component (184), telescoping component (186) and cavity (194) that work together to house a pointing device (180). The telescoping component is extended outwardly when the pointing device is being used, providing a platform for the pointing device.
