Abstract

Abstract Provided is a method and apparatus for statistically distinguishing input signals on the lamp lines of an instrument panel dimming circuit to generate a common dimming signal. The method and apparatus sample input signals to statistically determine the waveform of the input signal, i.e., direct current or pulse wide modulated signals thus obviating the need for trapping jumpers and associated electronics which require additional assembly time and manufacturing costs.
