Abstract
Abstract An output method and apparatus for operating in a first processing method in which a character pattern of a bit map form can be selected and output or in a second processing method in which a character pattern can be made by arithmetic operating processes and output. The method includes the steps of receiving a command from an exterior equipment or a command from a switch to indicate which one of the two processing methods is to be selected, and selecting either one of the two processing methods in accordance with the command received from either the exterior equipment or the switch, wherein the character pattern selected and output in the first processing method and the character pattern made and output in the second processing method represent the same pattern.
