Abstract

Abstract Methods and apparatus for prosthetic knee replacement permit preparation of tibial plateau and femoral condyle surfaces and implant of tibial and femoral protheses components with the use of arthroscopic surgical techniques. The bone surfaces are resected by moving a rotating milling cutter longitudinally across the bone surface and moving the rotating milling cutter substantially laterally across the bone. Cement is supplied between the prostheses and the bone surfaces after positioning of the prostheses on the bone, and cement bonding is enhanced by applying suction to the bone to draw the cement into the bone.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 81 words
A method of resecting a bone surface in the body comprising the steps of: moving a rotating milling cutter longitudinally across the bone surface, said longitudinally moving rotating milling cutter cutting said bone surface along the length of the longitudinally moving milling cutter; and moving a rotating milling cutter substantially laterally across said bone surface, said laterally moving rotating milling cutter cutting said bone surface along the length of the laterally moving milling cutter; whereby said bone surface is made planar.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 81 words
A method of resecting a bone surface in the body comprising the steps of: moving a rotating milling cutter longitudinally across the bone surface, said longitudinally moving rotating milling cutter cutting said bone surface along the length of the longitudinally moving milling cutter; and moving a rotating milling cutter substantially laterally across said bone surface, said laterally moving rotating milling cutter cutting said bone surface along the length of the laterally moving milling cutter; whereby said bone surface is made planar.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
A method of resecting a bone surface as recited in claim 1 wherein said step of laterally moving a milling cutter includes pivoting the milling cutter.
Claim 4
