Abstract

Abstract The reaction of protected monosaccharides or oligosaccharides or protected monosaccharide and oligosaccharide derivatives containing an anomeric hydroxyl group with secondary α-haloenamines affords high yields of protected glycosyl halides, which are valuable intermediates for the introduction of sugar groups in the synthesis of oligosaccharides, glycolipids or glycopeptides.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 18
Claim 1
Independent Claim 81 words
A process for the preparation of a protected sugar halide or halogenated sugar derivative having an anomeric halogen atom by halogenating the anomeric hydroxy group, which comprises reacting one equivalent of a protected sugar or a protected sugar derivative, wherein said sugar derivative is a deoxy-sugar, amino-sugar, thio-sugar, sugar acid or an ester of a sugar acid having an anomeric hydroxyl group, with an equivalent of a secondary α-haloenamine in an inert solvent at a temperature between -20° and 80° C.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 81 words
A process for the preparation of a protected sugar halide or halogenated sugar derivative having an anomeric halogen atom by halogenating the anomeric hydroxy group, which comprises reacting one equivalent of a protected sugar or a protected sugar derivative, wherein said sugar derivative is a deoxy-sugar, amino-sugar, thio-sugar, sugar acid or an ester of a sugar acid having an anomeric hydroxyl group, with an equivalent of a secondary α-haloenamine in an inert solvent at a temperature between -20° and 80° C.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process according to claim 1, wherein the solvent used is a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon, an aromatic hydrocarbon or an aliphatic ether.
