Abstract An agent for the treatment of water containing dissolved aluminum comprises a particulate alkali metal or quaternary ammonium silicate, the particles having a coating of a water-insoluble silicate over at least a part of their surface, and a process of treating water which comprises dissolving the agent in the water.
