At least one layer of plastically deformable material and at least one layer of resilient material is used to provide energy absorptive protection for the vehicle occupant's head. Vertical position adjustment may be provided on a transparent backing plate. Various signals and insignia may be inscribed on the side of the backing plate mounted toward a window.
