Abstract
Abstract Oligomers produced from lower olefins by acidic zeolite catalyzed oligomerization can be converted to useful lubricant additives or lubricants by epoxidation of olefinic bonds in the oligomers, whereby oligomers containing oxirane ring structures are produced. The epoxided products so produced exhibit high viscosity index and low pour points. The discovery is particularly applicable to the epoxidation of oligomers produced from lower olefins such as propylene by oligomerization using ZSM-5 catalyst which has been surface deactivated.
