Abstract

Abstract The present invention provides a process for modifying a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a Constraint Index of from about to about 12 which comprises: a) steaming the as synthesized crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite containing organic template material to decompose at least a portion of said template material and to extract zeolitic aluminum; and, b) contacting the zeolite resulting from step (a) in the ammonium, alkali metal or hydrogen form with a dealuminizing agent which forms a water-soluble complex with aluminum to remove a further quantity of zeolitic aluminum therefrom.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 85 words
A process for modifying a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a Constraint Index of from about 1 to about 12 which comprises: a) steaming the as synthesized crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite containing organic template material to decompose at least a portion of said template material and to extract zeolitic aluminum; and, b) contacting the zeolite resulting from step (a) in the ammonium, alkali metal or hydrogen form with a dealuminizing agent which forms a water-soluble complex with aluminum to remove a further quantity of zeolitic aluminum therefrom.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 85 words
A process for modifying a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a Constraint Index of from about 1 to about 12 which comprises: a) steaming the as synthesized crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite containing organic template material to decompose at least a portion of said template material and to extract zeolitic aluminum; and, b) contacting the zeolite resulting from step (a) in the ammonium, alkali metal or hydrogen form with a dealuminizing agent which forms a water-soluble complex with aluminum to remove a further quantity of zeolitic aluminum therefrom.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the modified zeolite resulting from step (b) is calcined to provide the hydrogen form of the zeolite.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 11 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the starting zeolite is ZSM-5.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 58 words
The process of claim 1 wherein in step (b), the steamed zeolite in the ammonium, alkali metal or hydrogen form is slurried with an aqueous solution of an ammonium or alkali metal salt which upon acidification yields an anion which complexes with aluminum, a water-soluble acid thereafter being added to said aqueous slurry to provide the dealuminizing agent.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 12 words
The process of claim 4 wherein said acid is a mineral acid.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 12 words
The process of claim 5 wherein said mineral acid is hydrochloric acid.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
The process of claim 4 wherein said salt is an ammonium or alkali metal ethylenediaminetetraacetate.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 12 words
The process of claim 4 wherein said salt is disodium dihydrogen ethylenediaminetetraacetate.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 12 words
The process of claim 4 wherein said salt is diammonium dihydrogen ethylenediaminetetraacetate.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the starting zeolite has a silica/alumina mole ratio of at least 12.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 18 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the starting zeolite has a silica/alumina mole ratio of 70 or above.
