A method of preparing a coated optical fibre assembly comprising at least one optical fibre and having an external coating comprising a radiation-cured polymer containing from 1 to 40% by volume of particulate matter, said process comprising the steps of: (1) applying to an optical fibre, a radiation-curable coating composition containing particulate matter selected from the class consisting of hollow microspheres having average diameters less than 100 microns and polytetrafluoroethylene particles, and (2) subjecting the radiation-curable coating so applied to electromagnetic radiation to effect its cure.

A method of preparing a coated optical fibre assembly comprising at least one optical fibre and having an external coating comprising a radiation-cured polymer containing from 1 to 40% by volume of particulate matter, said process comprising the steps of: (1) applying to an optical fibre, a radiation-curable coating composition containing particulate matter selected from the class consisting of hollow microspheres having average diameters less than 100 microns and polytetrafluoroethylene particles, and (2) subjecting the radiation-curable coating so applied to electromagnetic radiation to effect its cure.

A method according to claim 4 wherein the radiation-curable coating composition further comprises: (a) a polyethylenically unsaturated oligomer, (b) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer which is a liquid solvent for the oligomer and is copolymerisable therewith, and (c) a photoinitiator composition.
