Abstract A developing apparatus for developing an electrostatic latent image, which includes an electrostatic latent image holding member for holding an electrostatic latent image, a developing material support member provided to confront the electrostatic latent image holding member, and an electric field curtain generating device which functions as a developing material supply device for supplying the developing material to the developing material support member, and also causes an electric field curtain force in a form of a travelling wave travelling in terms of time, to act on the developing material.
