Abstract
Abstract In accordance with the present invention, a new pyrithione salt, namely chitosan pyrithione, is produced. This composition is characterized by a combination of slow release from films and excellent antimicrobial activity. The antimicrobial activity is equivalent to that of sodium pyrithione. These properties make chitosan pyrithione potentially useful as an antimicrobial agent in a variety of dermatological items, such as soaps, shampoos, and skin care medicaments.
