Abstract
Abstract Disclosed are novel, stable aqueous dispersions of ionic polyurethane-urea prepared by reacting an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diisocyanate, an organic polyol, a large particle size hydrophobic copolymer polyol, a difunctional isocyanate reactive component, and a water dispersible amine chain extender. Also disclosed are the films and coated substrates obtained through the use of said dispersions as coatings.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
85 words
An aqueous polymer dispersion having a continuous aqueous phase in which are dispersed a plurality of polymer particles, wherein a first portion of said polymer particles are polyurethane-urea polymer particles and a second portion of the particles are particles of a hydrophobic polymer to which is grafted a polyurethane-urea polymer, said second portion of particles having an average particle size of about 1000 to about 10,000 Angstroms, wherein said hydrophobic particles constitute about 0.5 to about 10 percent of the total weight of the particles.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

The dispersion of claim 2 wherein said second portion of particles constitutes from about 0.5 to about 10 weight percent of the combined weight of said first and second portions of particles.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
25 words
The dispersion of claim 3 wherein said polyurethane-urea polymer contains ionic groups in an amount sufficient to measurably improve the water dispersability of the particles.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
11 words
The dispersion of claim 4 wherein said polyurethane-urea particle is phase-segregated.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
18 words
The dispersion of claim 5 wherein said hydrophobic polymer is a polymer of styrene, acrylonitrile or mixtures thereof.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
