Abstract

Abstract A femoral elevating tool for use in hip replacement surgical procedures and preferably including a handle having a longitudinal axis and proximal and distal ends substantially parallel to one another. The proximal and distal ends are preferably offset from one another in a direction normal to the longitudinal axis by a central handle portion. A bone rest adjacent the distal end of the handle preferably includes an upstanding flange having a single, generally V-shaped cutout portion, and a ball for rotatably anchoring the tool in an acetabulum to provide a fulcrum for manipulation of a femur. In a preferred embodiment, the ball is adjustably mounted on the handle to enable selective variation of the effective distance between the ball and the bone rest, and the ball can be removed for cleaning and replacement with a different ball, as appropriate.
