Abstract

Abstract An automotive power plant has an electrically controlled transmission 12 which is connected to control modules by a wiring harness. The end of the wiring harness is attached to the transmission by an electrical connector which has a spring like thermoplastic cover which is secured to the insulator body of the electrical connector by a bayonet slot arrangement and which has an integral cable strap for securing an end of a convoluted conduit forming part of the wiring harness.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 101 words
A thermoplastic electrical connector comprising: a dome having a rim which is adapted to be secured to another electrical connector member by a bayonet joint so that an interior space of the dome forms a chamber in combination with said another connector member, the dome being configured so that the electrical connector member acts as a tension spring which maintains the integrity of the bayonet joint when an upward force is applied to the dome by said another connector member, and the dome having a plurality of circumferential slots which are located between a peak of the dome and the rim.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 101 words
A thermoplastic electrical connector comprising: a dome having a rim which is adapted to be secured to another electrical connector member by a bayonet joint so that an interior space of the dome forms a chamber in combination with said another connector member, the dome being configured so that the electrical connector member acts as a tension spring which maintains the integrity of the bayonet joint when an upward force is applied to the dome by said another connector member, and the dome having a plurality of circumferential slots which are located between a peak of the dome and the rim.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
The thermoplastic electrical connector member as defined in claim 1 wherein the dome has an inner and an outer set of circumferentially spaced arcuate slots.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 185 words
A thermoplastic cover for an electrical connector having a plurality of electric wires extending out of an end of an insulator body comprising: a dome having a rim which is adapted to be secured to the end of the insulator body so that an interior space of the dome forms a chamber for receiving the electric wires extending out of the end of the insulator body, and a transition channel section which is integrally attached to the dome at one end to form a transverse passage leading out of the interior space of the dome for the electric wires to exit the chamber, the rim having a plurality of circumferentially spaced lugs adapted to cooperate with J-shaped bayonet slots of the insulator body to secure the cover to the insulator body, and the dome having a plurality of circumferential slots which are located between a peak of the dome and the rim whereby the cover acts as a tension spring which retain the legs in detent portions of the J-shaped bayonet slots when an upward force is applied to the peak by the insulator body.
Claim 5
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 23 words
The thermoplastic cover as defined in claim 3 wherein the dome has an inner and an outer set of circumferentially spaced arcuate slots.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 40 words
The thermoplastic cover as defined in claim 3 wherein the transition channel extends outwardly of the dome to provide a handle for rotating the cover and the lugs into and out of the detent portions of the J-shaped bayonet slots.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 40 words
The thermoplastic cover as defined in claim 4 wherein the transition channel extends outwardly of the dome to provide a handle for rotating the cover and the lugs into and out of the detent portions of the J-shaped bayonet slots.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 43 words
The thermoplastic cover as defined in claim 4 wherein the peak of the dome has an access hole for tightening down a bolt housed in a tower portion of the insulator body which applies an upward force to the peak of the dome.
