Abstract
Abstract The subject invention relates to foundry binder systems, which are cured with gaseous sulfur dioxide, comprising as separate components: 1. a blend of an acrylated epoxy resin and a monoester solvent and; 2. an organic solvent; and a blend of an epoxy resin and an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent which is part of component (a), (b), or both. The invention also relates to the use of the foundry binder systems to prepare foundry mixes, foundry shapes, and metal articles.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
101 words
A cold-box process for preparing a foundry shape comprising: A. mixing a foundry aggregate with a bonding amount of up to about 10% by weight, based upon the weight of the aggregate, of a composition comprising: (1) a blend of an acrylated epoxy resin and a monoester solvent; and (2) an oxidizing agent; and a blend of an epoxy resin and an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent which is part of component A(1), A(2), or both; B. introducing the foundry mix obtained from step A into a pattern; and C. curing with gaseous sulfur dioxide, thereby obtaining a hard, solid, cured foundry shape.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
