Abstract

Abstract A laser printer is disclosed which is adapted to be used for color imaging. The printer comprises three diode lasers, each of which emits at a different wavelength. Each laser beam is passed through an apodizing mask to trim the final spot size. The beams from the three lasers are combined by the use of dichroic mirrors to form one combined beam. The combined beam is shaped by two spherical mirrors and is scanned onto a receiving medium by a polygon. The receiving medium is sensitive to the infrared, and the diode lasers are selected to obtain the widest possible spectral separation in the light beams from the lasers.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 158 words
A laser printer comprising: a plurality of athermalized optical heads, each of said optical heads including a diode laser and a collimator lens, each of said heads including means for maintaining a constant distance between said diode laser and said lens over a predetermined range of ambient temperatures, each of said diode lasers being adapted to emit a beam of light at a wavelight different from the other lasers; means for modulating the light beam from each of said lasers in accordance with an information signal; means for combining said beams of light to form a combined beam of light; means for shaping said combined beam; means for scanning said combined beam onto a false sensitized receiving medium; means for effecting relative movement between said receiving medium and said scanning means in a cross-scan direction; and means for controlling said modulating means, said scanning means, and said means for effecting relative movement in timed relation to each other.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 158 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
A printer, as defined in claim 1, wherein a cylinder mirror is disposed between said scanning means and said receiving medium.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 15 words

Claim 5
Dependent Claim 14 words
A printer, as defined in claim 1, wherein said printer includes three optical heads.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 45 words
A printer, as defined in claim 4, wherein one of said diode lasers emits at a wavelength of about 750 nm, another of said lasers emits at a wavelength of about 810 nm, and the other laser emits at a wavelength of about 870 nm.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 17 words
A printer, as defined in claim 1, wherein said receiving medium is supported on a rotatable drum.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 14 words
A printer, as defined in claim 1, wherein receiving medium is an infrared-sensitive medium.
