Abstract

Abstract Gas-phase photopolymerisation of phenylazides results in a new type of polymer, a poly-1,2-azepine. This polymer can be provided on a substrate according to a predetermined pattern by exposing it via a mask. After oxidation an electrically conductive polymer is obtained.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 72 words
A method of producing a polymer film or a substrate which method comprises bringing a surface of a substrate into contact with a vapor of a substituted phenylazide substituted with from 1 to 4 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, halogen and an electron-acceptor group, exposing said thus-coated substrate to UV light thereby causing said phenylazide to polymerize to form a film, of a corresponding poly -1,2- azepine.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 72 words
A method of producing a polymer film or a substrate which method comprises bringing a surface of a substrate into contact with a vapor of a substituted phenylazide substituted with from 1 to 4 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, halogen and an electron-acceptor group, exposing said thus-coated substrate to UV light thereby causing said phenylazide to polymerize to form a film, of a corresponding poly -1,2- azepine.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 13 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that 4-pentyloxyphenylazide is used.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 38 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 characterized in that the polymer is provided on the substrate surface according to a pattern by means of a mask which is positioned between an ultraviolet light source and the substrate.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 19 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the polymer is made electrically conductive by oxidizing it.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 29 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the oxidation process is carried out using a substance selected from the group consisting of arsenic pentafluoride and iodine.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
