Abstract
Abstract In accordance with the present invention, there is provided substituted naphthalene compounds represented by the following formula [I]. ##STR1## wherein R 1 represents alkyl of 1-18 carbon atoms, R 2 represents alkyl of 1-18 carbon atoms, X is a group represented by --OCH 2 -- or --CH 2 CH 2 --, and n is 0 or 1. In accordance with the invention, moreover, there is provided liquid crystal compositions containing the substituted naphthalene compounds represented by the above-mentioned formula [I].
