Abstract

Abstract A magnetic head includes a magnetoresistance element having the form of a loop and provided with a gap at a first portion opposite to a second portion confronting a magnetic recording medium, a coil conductor formed around the first portion of the magnetoresistance element for applying a bias magnetic field to the second portion of the magnetoresistance element in the direction of width of a track on the magnetic recording medium, and a lead conductor attached to the magnetoresistance element to cause a current which is necessary for detecting a signal recorded on the magnetic recording medium, to flow through the second portion of the magnetoresistance element, and formed together with the coil conductor as one body so that a part of a current supplied to the lead conductor flows through the coil conductor.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 135 words
A magnetic head comprising: a magnetoresistance element having the form of a loop, a gap being formed in a first portion of the magnetoresistance element opposite to a second portion confronting a magnetic recording medium; a coil conductor formed around the first portion of the magnetoresistance element for applying a bias magnetic field to the second portion of the magnetoresistance element in the direction of width of a track on the magnetic recording medium; and a lead conductor for causing a current to flow through the second portion of the magnetoresistance element, the current being used for detecting a signal recorded in the magnetic recording medium, the lead conductor and the coil conductor being united in one body so that a part of a current supplied to the lead conductor flows through the coil conductor.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 135 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
A magnetic head according to claim 1, wherein the magnitude of the gap lies in a range from 10 to 10,000 Å.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
A magnetic head according to claim 1, wherein end portions of the magnetoresistance element overlap each other through an insulating material.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
A magnetic head according to claim 1, wherein the width of the magnetoresistance element is made smaller than the width of the lead conductor lying on the magnetoresistance element.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 42 words
A magnetic head according to claim 1, wherein a ratio of the current flowing through the second portion of the magnetoresistance element to the current flowing through the coil conductor is controlled by changing the width and thickness of the lead conductor.
