Abstract

Abstract A continuous variable transmission (CVT) for a vehicle provided with an internal combustion engine. The engine is provided with an actuator which is mechanically disconnected from an accelerator pedal and is used for electrically operating a throttle valve so that a desired torque is obtained. A target value of a speed of the input shaft of the CVT is calculated in accordance with a target engine horsepower or driving torque. A feedback system for the CVT is provided for obtaining the target input shaft speed, and a sensor is provided for detecting an intake air amount or intake pressure. A target value of the engine torque is calculated from the target horsepower or driving torque and actual speed of the input shaft or actual speed ratio. A feedback system responsive to the intake air amount or intake pressure is provided for providing a feedback signal for obtaining the target torque.
