Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 20
Claim 1
Independent Claim 77 words
A process for the production of organic polysulphides of the type R--S n --R, where R is a hydrocarbon group and n a number from 2 to 8, by heating one or more mercaptans with sulphur, in the presence of a catalyst, said catalyst being obtained by condensing one molar equivalent of a mercaptan with 1 to 20 molar equivalents of an alkylene oxide in the presence of 0.01 to 1.5 molar equivalent of an alkaline base.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 77 words
A process for the production of organic polysulphides of the type R--S n --R, where R is a hydrocarbon group and n a number from 2 to 8, by heating one or more mercaptans with sulphur, in the presence of a catalyst, said catalyst being obtained by condensing one molar equivalent of a mercaptan with 1 to 20 molar equivalents of an alkylene oxide in the presence of 0.01 to 1.5 molar equivalent of an alkaline base.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 58 words
The process according to claim 1, wherein the catalyst corresponds to the formula : R-S(C m H 2m O) x H. (MOH) y wherein R denotes a hydrocarbon group, m is a number from 2 to 4, x a number from 1 to 20, y is a number from 0.01 to 1, and M denotes an alkali metal.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 18 words
The process according to claim 2, wherein x is 4 to 12, while y is 0.1 to 0.5.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 15 words
The process according to claim 2, wherein R is a C 1 -C 20 alkyl.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
The process according to claim 2, wherein R is C 6 -C 18 alkyl, and the alkylene oxide is ethylene oxide.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 11 words
The process according to claim 5, wherein the alkyl is branched.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process according to claim 6, wherein the alkyl is a tertiry alkyl.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 11 words
The process according to claim 6, wherein the alkyl is tert-nonyl.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 11 words
The process according to claim 6, wherein the alkyl is tert-dodecyl.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 19 words
The process according to claim 1, wherein the heating takes place at a temperature from 60° to 150° C.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 20 words
The process according to claim 1, wherein the heating takes place at a temperature of between 70° and 140° C.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 34 words
The process according to claim 10, wherein n has a value of 3 to 5, said heating operation being carried out at a temperature which is proportionately higher the lower the desired number n.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 33 words
The process according to claim 1, wherein the heating of the mercaptan with sulphur and the catalyst is carried out in two stages, each being followed by a degassing of H 2 S.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 22 words
The process according to claim 13, wherein said degassing of H 2 S is carried out by means of an inert gas.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 17 words
The process according to claim 1, carried out at a relative pressure of 0.2 to 1 bar.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 67 words
The process according to claim 1, wherein the catalyst is prepared by homogenizing one mole of mercaptan with αy moles (α=1 to 1.5) of alkaline base, preferably between 50° and 100° C., and then saturating the product obtained with alkylene oxide at a temperature of 80° to 120° C. at a relative pressure of 0.2 to 4 bars, followed by a degassing of the excess alkylene oxide.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 23 words
