Abstract

Abstract A heating apparatus for hyperthermia utilizes electromagnetic waves for locally heating cancerous cells within a living body. Electromagnetic waves output from a single electromagnetic wave generating means are branced into a plurality of branched electromagnetic waves, which are respectively employed to conduct hyperthermia treatments for a plurality of patients. The whole of the hyperthermia system is controlled in a concentrated fashion from a single section by means of time-division multiplexing. It is therefore possible for a plurality of patients to be subjected to hyperthermia treatment at the same time and in parallel with each other, even when the conditions of these patients differ from one another. Further, it is advantageously possible to simplify the arrangement of the system as a whole and stabilize the control of the system.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 58 words
Hyperthermia apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said means responsive to the internal and surface temperature is constructed and arranged such that the temperature of the coolant in the reservoir is increased by one step if either the measured internal temperature exceeds a preset internal temperature value, or the measured surface temperature exceeds a preset surface temperature value.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 47 words
Hyperthermia apparatus according to claim 2 wherein said means responsive to the internal and surface temperatures is constructed and arranged such that the temperature of the coolant in the reservoir is decreased by one step if the surface temperature is less than said preset surface temperature value.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 37 words
Hyperthermia apparatus according to claim 3 including a plurality of treatment branches like that set forth in subparagraph (a) in claim 1, wherein said main control unit independently controls the power level and cooling in each branch.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 63 words
Hyperthermia apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said means responsive to the internal and surface temperatures is constructed and arranged such that the temperatures of the coolant in the reservoir is decreased by one step if the surface temperature is lower than a preset surface temperature value, or is increased, by one step if the surface temperature is higher a preset surface value.
