Abstract

Abstract A radiation receiver is disclosed which, with no moving parts, detects both the azimuth and elevation of radiation in a panoramic field external to the receiver. The receiver includes at least one radiation sensitive element and a refractor. The refractor includes a plurality of prisms distributed on the walls of the refractor and forming a distributed focal plane adjacent to the refractor. The radiation sensitive element is located in the depth of field of the focal plane, and the image of at least one portion of the source of radiation is focused by the refractor from the far field of the refractor onto the radiation sensitive element. The disclosed combination reduces the possibility of damage by the radiation to the radiation receiver.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 82 words
A radiation receiver for detecting radiation emanating from at least one source of radiation outside the receiver, said receiver comprising at least one radiation sensitive element and a refractor; said refractor including a plurality of prisms distributed on the walls of the refractor and forming a distributed focal plane adjacent to the refractor; the image of at least one portion of the source of radiation being focused by the refractor from the far field of the refractor onto the radiation sensitive element.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 82 words
A radiation receiver for detecting radiation emanating from at least one source of radiation outside the receiver, said receiver comprising at least one radiation sensitive element and a refractor; said refractor including a plurality of prisms distributed on the walls of the refractor and forming a distributed focal plane adjacent to the refractor; the image of at least one portion of the source of radiation being focused by the refractor from the far field of the refractor onto the radiation sensitive element.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 17 words
The radiation receiver of claim 1 which is simultaneously sensitive to radiation from a plurality of directions.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
The radiation receiver of claim 1 which is simultaneously sensitive to radiation throughout a field of more than 180°.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
The radiation receiver of claim 1 which is simultaneously sensitive to radiation throughout a field of not less than 360°.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 18 words
The radiation receiver of claim 1 which is simultaneously sensitive to radiation throughout at least a 90° field.
