Abstract

Abstract In order to prevent inordinate thermally-induced backlash between the drive and driven gears of the timing transmission of an internal combustion engine, an idler gear between the drive and driven gears is rotatably carried by a support plate having one end connected to one of the engine crankshaft or camshaft and its other end connected to the engine body by a connection adapted to accommodate relative thermal expansion between the support plate and the engine body.
