Abstract

Abstract Blends of (i) an impact resistant interpolymer comprising crosslinked acrylic or methacrylic rubber, crosslinked styrene-acrylonitrile, and uncrosslinked styrene-acrylonitrile polymer components, (ii) a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer resin, (iii) an acrylic polymer, and (iv) a multistage grafted acrylic elastomer are disclosed. The blends display a good combination of physical properties including gloss, impact strength and tensile properties.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 65 words
A weatherable impact resistant composition comprising: A. 100 parts by weight of a blend comprised of: (a) an acrylate-styrene-acrylonitrile terpolymer resin; (b) a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer resin; (c) an acrylic resin made by the polymerization of acrylic ester monomers; and B. 1 to 40 parts by weight per 100 parts of blend A of an impact modifying component comprised of a crosslinked alkyl acrylate-graft acrylate copolymer.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 65 words
A weatherable impact resistant composition comprising: A. 100 parts by weight of a blend comprised of: (a) an acrylate-styrene-acrylonitrile terpolymer resin; (b) a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer resin; (c) an acrylic resin made by the polymerization of acrylic ester monomers; and B. 1 to 40 parts by weight per 100 parts of blend A of an impact modifying component comprised of a crosslinked alkyl acrylate-graft acrylate copolymer.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
A composition as in claim 1 wherein said impact modifying component is crosslinked n-butyl acrylate-graft-poly methyl (meth) acrylate.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 35 words
A composition as in claim 1 wherein said acrylate-styrene-acrylonitrile terpolymer resin is comprised of a combination of (i) a crosslinked (meth)acrylate surrounded and interpenetrated by a crosslinked styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer; and (ii) a linear styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 50 words
A composition as in claim 3 wherein the acrylate-styrene-acrylonitrile terpolymer resin is comprised of about 5% to about 50% by weight of the (meth)acrylate component, and about 5% to 35% by weight of the crosslinked styrene-acrylonitrile component, and from about 15% to 90% by weight of the uncrosslinked styrene-acrylonitrile component.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 37 words
A composition as in claim 3 wherein the (meth)acrylate component is selected from the group consisting of the crosslinked C 2 -C 10 alkyl acrylates, the crosslinked C 8 -C 22 alkyl methacrylates, and compatible mixtures thereof.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 19 words
A composition as in claim 5 wherein the (meth)acrylate component is a crosslinked C 4 -C 8 alkyl acrylate.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 14 words
A composition as in claim 1 wherein the acrylic resin (B) is polymethyl (meth)acrylate.
