Abstract
Abstract Described herein are poly(aryl ether ketones) derived from biphenol which can be improved by incorporating bisphenol comonomers. The resulting polymers have lower melting points while the Tg is essentially unchanged resulting in good mechanical and crystallization properties.

A poly(aryl ether ketone) containing units of the following formula: [Ar--X--Ar--(O--Ar).sub.m O]--.sub.a --[Ar"--X--Ar"--O--Ar"--(Ar').sub.n O]--.sub.b wherein Ar is independently phenylene or biphenylene, with the proviso that at least one Ar is biphenylene; X is independently --CO-- or --CO--Ar--CO--; Ar' is --O--Ar"'--; Ar"' is phenylene; Ar" is phenylene; n is 0 to 2; m is 0 or 1; and the ratio of a-to-b is 65:35 to 95:5.
