For use with a convention syringe having a male connecting portion thereon for connection to the female connecting portion of a conventional needle, a safety cover, comprising: a base having female connecting means thereon for removable connection to said male connecting portion of said syringe; a needle mounted on said base; a pair of jaw members pivotally mounted on diametric sides of said base to move between a closed position, wherein said jaws are longitudinally abutting, and an open position, wherein said jaws are disposed generally parallel to each other on diametric sides of base; means on said jaws for selectively, releasably locking said jaws in said closed position; and said jaws having a longitudinal groove therein adapted to form a selectively lockable tubular aperture between said jaws to encase said needle when said jaws are in the closed position.
