Abstract
Abstract A coil assembly for a metal detector of the type used for detecting metal fragments in foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals, the assembly comprising a frame of non-metallic material, the frame have an aperture therethrough for the passage of material undergoing inspection, a coating of carbon material applied to the exterior of the frame, a layer of plastic material applied over the carbon material, electrically conductive strands wound over the plastic material, the frame being fixed to a rigid metal housing providing an enclosed void around the exterior of the coated frame and strands, and foam plastic enveloping the frame and strands, the void being filled with the foam plastic.
