Abstract
Abstract An EMI/RFI shield is disclosed in which the shield is mounted in a continuous groove formed about the outside surface of the connector plug. The shield comprises a metal spring which is mounted over the outside of an elastomeric backup ring. Marginal portions of the spring are wrapped around the side edges of the ring so that the spring will pipe along sidewalls of the groove when the plug is mated with the receptacle, thereby enhancing the electrical connection between the plug and receptacle shells, and increasing shielding effectiveness.
