Abstract

Abstract A photosensitive member according to the present invention comprises an electrically conductive substrate and a photosensitive layer comprising a binder resin and a styryl compound dispersed therein and represented by the general formula (I), ##STR1## wherein R 1 , R 3 and R 5 each represent hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or heterocyclic group, the aryl, aralkyl and heterocyclic groups having or not having a substituent, R 2 , R 4 and R 6 each represent a substituted or unsubstituted aryl, aralkyl or heterocyclic group, R 1 and R 2 , R 3 and R 4 , and R 5 and R 6 taken together form a ring, and R 7 , R 8 and R 9 each represent hydrogen or an alkyl, alkoxyl, aralkyl or aryl group. A photosensitive member of this structure exhibits high sensitivity, is outstanding in the ability to retain charges and in charge transporting ability and less prone to deterioration when repeatedly used.
