Abstract

Abstract A multilayered detector apparatus comprising: a first conductive layer: a photoconductive layer having two sides thick enough to obtain a desired level of sensitivity and resolution of the detector apparatus when the detector apparatus is exposed to radiation of known energy, one side of said photoconductive layer being integrally affixed to and in electrical contact with one side of said first conductive layer; a insulating layer having two sides that is a phosphor that will emit light when irradiated by X-rays, one side of said insulating layer being affixed to the other side of said photoconductive layer; and transparent conductive layer having two sides, one side of said transparent conductive layer being affixed to the other side of said insulating layer.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 113 words
A multilayered detector apparatus comprising: a first conductive layer; a photoconductive layer the sensitivity and resolution of which when exposed to radiation of known energy is determined by the thickness of said photoconductive layer, one side of said photoconductive layer being in electrical communication through planar contact with one side of said first conductive layer; a insulating phosphor layer capable of emitting light when irradiated by x-rays, one side of said phosphor layer being in planar contact with and affixed to the side of said photoconductive layer opposite said conductive layer; and a second conductive layer in planar contact with and affixed to said phosphor layer on the side opposite said photoconductive layer.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 113 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 15 words
An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said second conductive layer is transparent to light.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
A detector as in claim 2 including a blocking contact between said first conductive layer and said photoconductive layer.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
A detector as in claim 3 wherein the insulating layer phosphor is made just thick enough to withstand the potential placed across it.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 23 words
An apparatus as in claim 3 including an insulating layer affixed to the side of said first conductive layer opposite said photoconductive layer.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 24 words
An apparatus as in claim 3 including first and second electrical connection means for electrically connecting to said first and transparent conductive layer, respectively.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 31 words
An apparatus as in claim 6 wherein said first conductive layer provides the structural support for said apparatus and all other layers are thin films deposited on said first conductive layer.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 30 words
Apparatus as in claim 6 wherein said transparent insulating layer provides the structural support for said apparatus and all other layers are thin films deposited on said transparent insulating layer.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 24 words
An apparatus as in claim 6 wherein said photoconductive layer provides the structural support for said apparatus and all other layers are thin films.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 28 words
An apparatus as in claims 7, 8 or 9 including an external support framework attached to at least a portion of the perimeter of the multilayered detector structure.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 49 words
An apparatus as in claim 3 wherein said first conductive layer is a relatively thick sheet of aluminum, said photoconductive layer is a 100 to 400 micron layer of selenium; said transparent insulating layer is a thin film and said transparent conductive layer is a thin film of metal.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 20 words
An apparatus as in claim 11 wherein said detector has an unsegmented surface area of at least 25 square inches.
