A device for introduction into the body of a being to effect a procedure therein, said device being an elongated flexible catheter having a distal end, said catheter having a longitudinal axis and being of sufficient flexiblity and small diameter to enable it to be readily located within said body with its distal end located at the situs for said procedure, said catheter comprising a working head located adjacent the distal end and drive means therefor, said drive means comprising at least one elongated member extending down said catheter and arranged to be rotated at a high rate of speed about said axis and motion translating means located adjacent said distal end of said catheter and coupled to said elongated member and said working head for converting said rotary motion of said elongated member into reciprocating motion back and forth in a direction parallel to sadi axis, whereupon said working head is reciprocated at a high speed back and forth in a direction parallel to said axis.
