Abstract

Abstract The present invention relates to a composite material, of the type comprising a matrix in resin coke carbon and a refractory fibrous reinforcement, wherein the elementary fibers composing the fibrous reinforcement are coated before use with a layer of pyrolytic carbon the thickness of which layer can vary between 0.01 μm and 1.0 μm. The invention further relates to a method for preparing said material.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 65 words
A composite material comprising a coke matrix and a plurality of refractory reinforcement fibers disposed therein, each fiber being individually coated with a pyrolytic carbon layer by a chemical vapor deposition process, said matrix making a bond with and being disposed around each individual coated fiber, said coating layer having such properties as to reduce the bonding forces between the coated fibers and the matrix.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 65 words
A composite material comprising a coke matrix and a plurality of refractory reinforcement fibers disposed therein, each fiber being individually coated with a pyrolytic carbon layer by a chemical vapor deposition process, said matrix making a bond with and being disposed around each individual coated fiber, said coating layer having such properties as to reduce the bonding forces between the coated fibers and the matrix.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
A composite material as in claim 1 wherein said coating layer has a thickness not less than 0.01 micrometer but not greater than one micrometer.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 59 words
A composite material comprising a coke matrix and a plurality of refractory reinforcement fibers disposed therein, each fiber being individually coated with a pyrolytic carbon layer, said matrix making a bond with and being disposed around each individual coated fiber, said coating layer having such properties as to reduce the bonding forces between the coated fibers and the matrix.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 59 words
A composite material comprising a coke matrix and a plurality of refractory reinforcement fibers disposed therein, each fiber being individually coated with a pyrolytic carbon layer, said matrix making a bond with and being disposed around each individual coated fiber, said coating layer having such properties as to reduce the bonding forces between the coated fibers and the matrix.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
A composite material as in claim 3 wherein said coating layer has a thickness not less than 0.01 micrometer but not more than one micrometer.
