Abstract

Abstract A cruise control system for a vehicle having an automatic transmission comprises a constant speed driving device having an actuator for changing the amount of fuel to be fed to the engine, a first controller for controlling the actuator to control the amount of fuel to be fed to the engine so that the vehicle speed is fixed at a set speed, a manually operated switch for delivering to the actuator an override command for changing the vehicle speed from the set speed; a downshifting solenoid for downshifting the automatic transmission; and a second control means which permits the downshifting solenoid to downshift the automatic transmission a predetermined delay time after the manually operated switch is operated.
