Abstract
Abstract An azo compound of the formula: <IMAGE> (I) wherein R is of the formula: <IMAGE> <IMAGE> <IMAGE> <IMAGE> +TR <IMAGE> R1 is hydrogen, methyl or -SO3M; R2 is hydrogen or -SO3M; R2 is hydrogen or -SO3M; R3 is C4-C18 alkyl and M is hydrogen, an alkali metal, ammonium or organic ammonium, provided that when R includes -SO3M, R1 l and R2 are not -SO3M, and when R does not include -SO3M, either one of R1 and R2 is -SO3M, which is useful as a black dyestuff for a solvent type ink composition, particularly for ink jet recording.
