A method of preparing the catalyst composition of claim 1 comprising refluxing a solution of the platinum group metal carboxylate with the polymer in particulate form until the catalytic component of the carboxylate is bound to the polymer through the carboxylate groups of the polymer and thereafter recovering the resulting product.

A catalyst according to claim 1, said catalyst being obtained by refluxing a solution of the platinum group metal carboxylate with the polymer in particulate form until the catalytic component of the carboxylate is bound to the polymer through the carboxylate groups of the polymer and thereafter recovering the resulting product.
