Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 63 words
An optical coupler which comprises an optical waveguide with a flat grating included therein, and a substrate on which the waveguide is formed, the optical waveguide being comprised of a film of an organic compound having both a hydrophobic moiety and a hydrophilic moiety, and the grating being comprised of a film having a different refractive index from that of the optical waveguide.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 63 words
An optical coupler which comprises an optical waveguide with a flat grating included therein, and a substrate on which the waveguide is formed, the optical waveguide being comprised of a film of an organic compound having both a hydrophobic moiety and a hydrophilic moiety, and the grating being comprised of a film having a different refractive index from that of the optical waveguide.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 31 words
An optical coupler according to claim 1, wherein a buffer layer is provided on the optical waveguide and a reflective layer is provided on an upper surface of the buffer layer.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 17 words
An optical coupler according to claim 2, wherein the buffer layer is made of an LB film.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
An optical coupler according to claim 1, wherein the substrate is made of at least one of glass, ceramics, plastic, and silicon oxide.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
An optical coupler according to claim 2, wherein the reflective layer is an Al vapor-deposited substrate.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 26 words
An optical coupler according to claim 1, wherein the optical waveguide is made of at least one of a diacetylene derivative and a photopolymerizable olefinic compound.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
An optical coupler according to claim 1, wherein the optical waveguide has a thickness of 0.5 to 5 μm.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 21 words
An optical coupler according to claim 1, wherein the grating is made of an aliphatic carboxylic acid and its metal salt.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 32 words
An optical coupler according to claim 1, further comprising two hydrophilic groups disposed so as to face each other to form a contact surface between the optical waveguide and the flat grating.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 32 words
An optical coupler according to claim 1, further comprising two hydrophobic groups disposed so as to face each other to form a contact surface between the optical waveguide and the flat grating.
